Well, of sorts. I know we're still running the poll currently, so I won't take that heavily into account just yet. I was hoping we could feelings jam it out, guys.

Considering we're in a pretty free environment now, I figured a good way to leave the door open for new characters is some good ole fashioned hand waving.

i.e: Val has a problem, man, a cloning problem. Lets say she has a shit ton of extra unopened pods waaay back in the station that got jostled by the landing. These pods could contain anyone from any universe. If you want to bring in a new character, make it so.

Want to bring back someone you dropped? DO IT. Want to bring in a new baffled character? DO IT.

Outside of that, feel free to dish out ideas. I've kind of been the only super vocal one as of late. If you have any cool ass ideas, throw them out to the rest of us. How is the settlement plan going? What has our motely crew run into on this planet? Is it all forest or does the planet have different areas?

For those of you that are still around, this is the official announcement of the end of formal gameplay in a_facility. The comms are no longer being modded, but existing players are welcome to continue using them for musebox style play. We've also swapped over to open membership to allow for some flex as far as characters go.

The crash landing happened this past Wednesday. For those wondering about the planet that survivors will be left with, the new setting is being left entirely up to you. The environment is habitable and will provide food and shelter to those willing to seek it out, but beyond that? The setting and everything else within it can be assumed to meet your needs. Weather, hostiles, supplies, have at.

This world is yours now. It's what you make of it ~~shuttup I can quote 9 if I want to~~.

Hey, folks - I've had this in mind pretty much ever since the big space battle, and to say goodbye to A Facility with a bang, I'm opening this musebox post to everyone. It's part meme, part alternate universe shenanigans, part just plain old fun.

Scenario: Instead of fighting, the clones took advantage of the chaos to escape Alpha Omega and Val, stole an enemy ship, and flew to the Consortium's home planet for revenge. WHAT HAPPENED NEXT? God knows, probably nothing good. Click the link for more details.

A letter from the mods

We’ve decided that this will be Facility’s last reset. I know there’ve been a lot of plans tossed about concerning the planned plot change, but we’ve reached a point where we need to be realistic about the chances of this game surviving beyond the crash landing. Even after turning the station on its head, we can’t seem to muster the player interest to justify the amount of work needed (and that has already been done) to follow through with the plot change.

This wasn’t a decision based solely on player activity, but also on the personal feelings of the mod staff. The last month or so has easily been the most stressful in our four year run. Stressful enough to impact real life responsibilities, and operating like that (whether for another month or another year) is something we’re not willing to do to ourselves. I can’t speak for Desh, but for me personally? I can see that path leading me to becoming the kind of uninvested, disconnected mod that I’ve always promised myself I wouldn’t become.

I expect some of you will be angry with us over this decision, and that’s okay. We offered you some hope and now we’re taking that away, and for that I am truly sorry. If you have any questions, comments, or you just want to get something off your chest, feel free to message me (Ningi) in any way you see fit.

Gameplay will continue for the next three days, with the crash landing scheduled for Wednesday (April 3rd). Anyone who would like to play out their final goodbyes is free to do so for as long as they like. Whether your character dies in the crash or survives to attempt life on the planet is up to you. We’ll be leaving the comm open so that players can retain access to old threads or create new ones on the planet as they like, but we will no longer be actively modding after Wednesday.

For those of you that are still here and even those who have already taken that step back, thank you so much for the time you’ve invested and the little world you’ve built with us. Facility has been a major part of our lives for so long now that... honestly, the thought of hitting the post button on this is painful, but it’s out of respect for you guys, ourselves, and the game as we’ve come to know and love it that we must. As the old saying goes, if you love it, let it go ~~(in classic Facility style) to a screaming, fiery death~~.

So, Justin and Eddie are trying to pull together "survival packets" for everyone left on the station. Food, water, a flashlight, a tarp, some water purifying tablets (if those are available on the station, I'm not quite sure), and just because they've got no idea what will be on the planet, crop seeds to plant later.

Plot Related Damage Report

Space is a funny thing. Very unpredictable, you see, and it doesn’t help matters when the corrupt AI you flushed a while back took some important sensory software with her without anyone noticing. 8D;

As of now, Alpha Omega is caught in the path of an asteroid field. A massive impact strong enough to knock most characters off their feet will shake the station. A barrage of similar impacts with continue for about ten minutes. Lights will cut out and gravity will be unpredictable.

Once the station passes through the asteroid field, emergency systems will kick on to give characters enough light to function. A Val post will follow. Feel free to panic.

Since we seem to have missed the mark yesterday, we’ve bundled up a few more general ideas. We’re all getting very focused on specifics when what we really need right now is a simple vote on what general direction we should be heading. As Desh and I see it, we have three basic options: stay on the station, leave the station for another torture box, or leave the station for planet colonization. Once we choose the type of game we want to be playing in, plots can be tossed about and twisted to best fit what the majority would like to see.

Nothing here is written in stone. The purpose of everything listed below is to give all of you an idea of the potential of each setting so that we can make a decision before what little momentum we have runs out. Please look each one over, discuss whatever you feel you need to, ask questions, and let us know your preference.

State of the Game Proposal #1

We’ve given it a few days to let those who wanted to weigh in do so, so here goes nothing. Desh and I have been tossing around ideas, refining them with the help of a few others (a special thanks to everyone who submitted ideas, and to Dilly, who helped me string my torture beads together and turn them into a proper premise), and we’ve come up with a plot/setting shift we’d be willing to run for you guys if there’s enough interest in it. We don’t want to spoil any possible plot ideas, but you’ll all obviously need some idea of how things would be going down to judge whether or not you’d want to be a part of it.

This is just a cut down version of what we’ve figured out so far. If there’s enough interest we’ll give everyone two weeks or so to wrap things up before jumping into the plot line. Let us know what you think.

EDIT: Please note that this is NOT set in stone. We're trying to figure out where we're going from here, and discussing options is just step one. Response to shut down has been an overwhelming "no", so even if there's not enough support for this, we'll going to keep things going while we try to come up with new options.

State of the Game Poll

Fac has been running for more than four years now, a rather impressive feat considering its limited jamjar beginnings, but interest has obviously waned in the last few months. It’s a natural decline that I (Ningi) honestly expected to happen much earlier. I’m thrilled with how long the game has lasted and proud of the amazing things all of you have accomplished along the way, but now it’s time to be realistic about our longevity.

We’ve done our best to raise interest and kindle new CR again, but it just doesn’t seem to be working. Our schedule doesn’t put Alpha Omega at its destination until July, but with the way things are going it doesn’t look like we’ll make it that far, so we've put together some options for everyone to weigh in on. We would prefer not to have things taper off into uncertainty, so if there is no longer interest we’re willing to wrap things up faster than planned.

1) Option one is immediate shutdown. Game over, and we just leave things as they are and walk away.

2) Option two would take a week or so and involve some sort of cataclysmic event taking out the station. In this scenario there wouldn’t really be a “happy ending”. Just enough time for everyone to wrap up their threads and get in their goodbyes with CR.

3) If there is enough interest to continue the game, we can size down. This option would also involve some sort of cataclysmic event, likely kill off a large portion of the population, and end with the survivors sequestered in F1 for the remainder of the trip. Old school torture box.

4) And, of course, there is always the option to try and continue as we are.

If anyone else has ideas as to how things could go/be improved/whatever,please let us know! We love you guys and we love this game, so if things aren’t going to last the least we can do for you and for us is face the end head on.

Week 217 OOC Observations

Hey, guys! Congratulations, you made it through Week Two Hundred and Sixteen.

Week 217 will be week three on M6-117, the planet from the movie Pitch Black. The writeup is here. The planet is still in total darkness due to the total eclipse, but this week the rats will be experiencing some problems with their light sources. "Malfunctions" will occur at least once a day and will generally last between ten and twenty seconds, leaving partners to survive in flickering, unreliable light. Partners can choose to have malfunction happen more often if they’d like.

Week 216 OOC Writeup

Hey, guys! Congratulations, you made it through Week Two Hundred and Fifteen.

Week 216 will be week two on M6-117, the planet from the movie Pitch Black. The writeup is here.

As detailed in the writeup, week two will begin with a total eclipse. All three suns will be blocked by other celestial bodies, casting the planet into total darkness for the rest of the trip. Power reserved from the solar panels in the settlements will last for a day or so before mostly sputtering out. Special nerfs are now in effect for characters with blue collars/light producing abilities. Please see the writeup.

I'm gonna be dropping Angie. It turns out that this game just isn't the right fit for her. Sorry, guys. She left notes in her room for Middy and Apollo once they get back to the main station. There's also a notebook full of notes on nanites, the pods, the incinerator and other things around the station for Eli. She also left a few science books that she picked up in New York for him.

Sadly I haven't had any steam for either of my two for a while now and the hiatus didn't help, so it's time to send Bakura and Stocking home. Thank you for everyone who's put up with the psycho thief and the bitchy angel while they were here! The writeup for our upcoming F3 trip is here. Feel free to leave any questions you have here, or start plotting!

We also have a preliminary list for the character pairings that will be necessary during weeks two and three. If you spot any problems with the list (characters who have idled out, characters with the same mun paired with each other, or characters who already have strong CR), please let us know as soon as possible!

Pairings are subject to change, but we will do our best not to disrupt people too much. Anyone who ends up without a partner by the time week two of the trip comes around will be placed with another group to make a trio. It's also worth noting that most pairs are likely to hole up in one of the three settlements, so characters won't be stuck with only their partner the entire time.

How does it work?

1. Post an entry detailing your characters, what kind of plot they have going on, what kind of plot you'd like others to be involved in. If you're looking for new types of CR, post up what kind you'd be interested in.

2. Look at other player's posts, and offer your characters up for CR and involvement in plots you're interested in.

3. Discuss. FORM EPIC PLOT AND CHARACTER INTERACTIONS.

Deleting Red Val

So the time has come for the station to be rid of Red Val. Over the last few months Green Val and a few of her guests have been working to contain the corrupted code in one of the twelve towers housed in Val’s control room. The work was mostly successful, but Red Val has one last opening to use and she’s decided to take it. If guests move quickly and manage to get into the control room, the tower containing Red Val can be removed in about three hours. However, the effects of Red Val’s death throes will continue for the next twenty-four hours.

Effects include:
-random loss of utilities (light and water)
-malfunctioning air compressors (for long enough to for the air to get thin in some areas)
-fun problems with gravity
-collar malfunctions (fluctuating power levels, collar size, ect.)
-robot malfunctions (anything from bouncing off walls to aggressive behavior toward guests)
-faciliberry malfunctions (you all know what to do)

Green Val will not be available until she’s and her helpers have cleaned up the mess. Only those qualified to tinker with Val’s insides will be given access to her control room, and even then getting in might be a fight. An all-clear post will go up tomorrow.
